North Smithfield Emergency Management proposes to train a CERT
team in each neighborhood, starting in 2007 A Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) is a group of 10 to 20 citizens trained and certified
by the NSEMA to provide emergency assistance in their own neighborhood
for the first 72 hours following a disaster. They could be activated for:

Civil disturbances or other calamities

Hazardous materials spills

Neighborhood Crime Watch
All training will be conducted by CERT certified instructors and includes
training in:

Disaster Awareness and Home Preparedness

Basic Fire Suppression

Utility Control (natural gas, electricity, water,propane)

Hazardous Materials Identification

Disaster Medicine (triage, basic treatment, extrication)
